After a successful Spring Series with lots of close competition, winds that allowed for some exciting races and “After Glows” led by Barb Schmid and PC Charlie Todd we are hoping for a repeat in the Summer Series.
Now is the time for everyone to get ready to come out and sail in the Summer Series. If an application is needed please contact the race committee at email@example.com or pick one up from the mail slot in the clubhouse.
Racing will begin on Monday, July 31 with races on the following three Mondays, August 7, 14, 21. The awards ceremony will be on the last Monday in August, the 28th (No racing is planned). In this series we will be using a 5 mile course with the starting order reversed from the Spring Series.
The day started, with the volunteer charity breakfast and ended with an everyone welcome hot dog cook out, where we gave away 320 barbecued hot dogs. 137 high school sailors, from all over the state, participated in the regatta.
31 CSYC member volunteers helped with the event - 18 on the water in 6 race committee boats.
The top 6 teams (out of 32 teams) in the regatta were:
1) Grosse Pointe North - Pendragon 4) Grosse Pointe South - White
2) Grosse Pointe North - Norseman 5) Grosse Pointe South - Gold
3) Black River - Saint Francis 6) Brother Rice - Warriors Black
Larry Klein Memorial Regatta
We held our 22nd annual LKM Regatta on Memorial Day with 28 entrants. The traditional Cal’s won the day. A shorter double triangle was setup. Weather was perfect. 1st Place went to the Rozelle Family on their Cal 25 and 2nd went to Ross Nuechterlein on his Cal 25 and 3rd went to Bob and Pat Cazabon on their Cal 20. Just after the race, awards and picnic were completed in came a 30 knot puff with some rain. The weather was all Larry; it is incredible that we have been able to run 22 years in a row without having any race stopped due to bad weather.
Thanks go out to our sponsors – North Sails, Sobstat Sails, Ullman Sails, Mike’s Marine, and Thomas Hardware. Photos were forwarded to Larry’s family and they were thrilled that we are keeping his spirit alive and celebrating his life with this race.
